No. 36. - (1). No officer appointed after the 1st. January, 1903, and

no officer appointed prior to that date, after his next

promotion, will be allowed the privilege of free quarters

or be granted an allowance in lieu thereof, with the

exception of those officers, such as the officers of

Prisons, Asylums or Hospitals or members of the Police

Force whose duties necessitate their residence within

or close to the institutions to which they are attached.

But even in these exceptional cases officers will not be

allowed to reckon the value of their quarters for pen-
